Lesson Week 11

I am so grateful for the lesson this week. It seems to me that Heavenly Father had this lesson ready for when I need it. I will share an on going tragedy going on in my families life. On Monday morning I received a text at work that knock me to my knees. It was discovered that one of my old scouts that I taught in Las Vegas committed suicide. As the week and information has progressed I studied my lessons and all the talks and reading has help me to deal with this.
The lessons being focused on family, our responsibilities as priesthood holders and parents. Some of the lesson material caused me to tear up as I read. I am actively trying to give help and comfort to his family as well as my own family because of how closely we knew them. Depression is a very powerful and silent killer in our society. These lessons this week have strengthened me to handle some questions that I had. I hope and pray you all are safe and your families are well.

What a Week 09 lesson

What a great week of reading. This week we read in Enos thru Mosiah 3. My personal favorite was in Omni 1:2 Wherefore, in my days, I would that ye should know that I fought much with the sword to preserve my people, the Nephites, from falling into the hands of their enemies, the Lamanites. But behold, I of myself am a wicked man, and I have not kept the statutes and the commandments of the Lord as I ought to have done. I love this because he talks about how he is a wicked man, yet he knows the importance of records enough to keep passing them to his people.
We also did some great digging deeper study. One of the lesson was of a rugby player named Sid Going who change the game of rugby because of his faith. Sid chose to serve his mission and possibly miss out on getting to play professional rugby for the New Zealand. Sid did go to serve his mission and return to play rugby. Not only did he play very well but he refused to play or practice on Sunday. The example he set caused games and practices to rescheduled. I was able to share this story with my sons who also play rugby and show it as an example of faith and honor.

Lesson 07 Dr. Suess

This week was a crazy busy week.  I got my assignments done before gathering on Thursday. I seem to be building new friendship and I enjoy studying we everyone in class.

In class, Steve one of our class leaders this week handed out different books for us to practice gathering scholarly information. It was a very good activity. In my group we had a book about Star Wars. We determined that although fiction books are fictitious, the authors can have verifiable knowledge in the things they are writing about. This knowledge for example, when they are writing about flying a x-wing fighter they can refer to their real life knowledge of being in the US Air Force.
I have found many fiction writers use their real life experience to help in their writings.

Another group had a Dr. Seuss book that sparked a debate in our class. This debate was about weather the book series was a valuable tool in education. With many points of view, it was fun to watch the class debate the educational value over the entertainment value. In the end the lead student got us back on track to our lesson.

I could not imagine continuing my education with out this amazing Pathways program. The gatherings are very beneficial to me.

Lesson 5 Thoughts

This week we studied in 2 Nephi 9:27-52. We read the scriptures and talked about the contrast between the Devil and Christ. As I read the scriptures I felt that I could see them listing the different things that would bring me to being a follower of either the Devil or Christ.

The things that would cause you to be a follower of the Devil are in the scriptures are as follows:  those who know the laws of the Lord and transgressed against those laws, those who wastes the days of their probation,  those who are rich in to the things of the world and pour in the spirit,  those who lie, those who murdered deliberately, those who commit whoredom's, those who worship idols, those who delight and die in their own sins and all these the Devil delighteth In them.

The things that would cause you to be a follower of Christ are in the scriptures as follows: those whose shake off the chains of sin, those who come in to God as the of their salvation, those who at horse in and delight in righteousness, those who praise the holy name of God,those who remember the words of God and praying to him and give thanks to his holy name by night,  those who let their hearts rejoice in the Lord.

As we read and learned about these things in our group this week, we decided that these things are the difference between right and wrong, being close to the spirit or away from the spirit. I decided that it feels much better to be close to the spirit then away from it.
